Garage Door Opener Repair FAQs: Answers From King Garage Opener

Short answers to the questions Las Vegas homeowners ask most. Each topic links to a full guide with safe checks and likely causes.

Pricing and Quotes

What you pay, and how to judge a quote.

What is the average cost to repair a garage door opener?

There is no single average, because repairs range from a remote battery to a new motor. The part that failed, your opener’s brand and age, and the state of your door set the total. You get the total before work starts.

How do I compare two repair quotes?

Compare what each one names. Each should list the failed part, the fix, and the total in writing. A cheaper quote that skips the door check or the safety test is not the same job.

Will I know the total before you start?

Yes. We test the opener and the door, explain the cause, and give you the total before any work starts.

Emergency Service and Hours

When we are available, and what to do while you wait.

Do you offer emergency garage door opener repair in Las Vegas?

Yes. Emergency service is available 24/7. Call (702) 829-2196 any time and say it is urgent, and we give you an arrival window on the call. Emergency visits cost a little more than regular visits, and you get the total before any work starts.

What should I do if my garage door is stuck open at night?

Leave the red release cord alone, because a broken spring can make an open door fall. Lock the door between the garage and your home, and keep people and pets clear. Call us any time.

Can I pull the red release cord any time?

No. Use it only when the door is fully closed. If the door is open or partly open, a weak or broken spring can let it fall fast.

What are your business hours?

We are open Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM. Emergency service is available 24/7.

Repair or Replace

How to decide, and what a replacement involves.

How do I know when to replace my garage door opener?

Replace it when it is past 15 years or keeps failing, when it has no working safety sensors, when parts are hard to find, or when a repair would cost about half the price of a new one. Many openers last 10 to 15 years, according to House Digest.

How long does a garage door opener last?

Most last 10 to 15 years. Belt drives often last 15 to 20 years, according to industry estimates. Heavy daily use and an unbalanced door shorten that.

Is it worth replacing a garage door opener?

Often, if the opener is old, loud, or keeps failing, or if it has no safety sensors. A new one adds safety features, quieter operation, and options such as WiFi and a backup battery.

Do I need a new door to replace the opener?

No. Most replacements keep your existing door. We check the balance and the springs first, because a heavy or unbalanced door strains any opener.

Common Opener Problems

Short answers to the questions we hear most. Each links to a full guide.

Why is my garage door opener not working?

Common causes are no power, wall control lock mode, a dead remote battery, blocked or misaligned photo eyes, and worn parts such as a gear, circuit board, or motor.

How do I reset my garage door opener?

If you can reach the plug safely, unplug the opener for about a minute and plug it back in. If a remote still fails, reprogram it using your manual. If nothing changes, call us.

Why does my garage door opener hum but not open the door?

A hum means the motor has power but cannot move the door. The cause is either inside the opener, such as a stripped gear or a failed capacitor, or in the door, such as a broken spring or a locked door.

Why does my garage door opener click but not open?

A click usually means the control board got your command and closed a relay. If the motor does not follow, the cause may be a bad relay, a failed capacitor, a stripped gear, a disconnected door, or a door too heavy to lift.

Why do my opener lights flash and the door won’t close?

On Chamberlain openers, ten flashes point to a sensor problem and two flashes mean the Lock button is on, according to Chamberlain. Other brands use different codes, so check your manual.

Is a reversing door a safety feature?

Yes. A closing door must reverse within two seconds of touching an object, according to the CPSC. A reverse that works is good. A reverse with nothing in the way needs a fix.

Why is my garage door opener beeping?

The opener may be running on battery power, warning that the backup battery is low, warning of a remote or timed close, or reporting an obstruction. If it has no backup battery, the beep may come from another device nearby.

Remotes and Smart Features

Remotes, keypads, car buttons, and compatibility.

Why does my wall button work but not the remote?

Check the remote battery and the Lock button on the wall control. Lock mode makes the opener ignore remotes. If neither helps, the remote may need reprogramming.

Will my old remotes work with a new opener?

Maybe not. Chamberlain says its remotes and keypads work only with openers made after 1993 that use safety sensors, and newer models may pair differently. We program remotes and keypads during a replacement, and we tell you what needs replacing.

Do Chamberlain remotes work with any opener?

No. Chamberlain says its remotes and keypads work only with openers made after 1993 that use safety sensors.
