What myQ Does
myQ is Chamberlain Group’s smart garage system, and the free myQ app is how you use it. It works with newer Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers, and with other openers through a hub.
- Open, close, and check the door from anywhere.
- Get alerts when the door opens, closes, or is left open.
- Set schedules to close the door at set times.
- Share access with family or guests, without handing out a key.
- Run diagnostics. The app tells you if there is a problem and whether it looks like an easy fix.

Quick answer
- Newer Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers have myQ built in
- Many older openers can add it with a hub
- A strong WiFi signal in the garage matters
- Remote close beeps and flashes by law
Two Ways to Get myQ
Pick the one that fits your opener.
| Option | What it is | Good for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| A smart opener with myQ built in | A newer Chamberlain or LiftMaster opener that connects with no extra hardware | A new install, or an old opener that is due for replacement | Check the model, and see our replacement page |
| Smart Garage Control | A small hub and door sensor that add myQ to your existing opener | An opener that works well and is compatible | Not every opener works. See the list below |
Both ways use the same free app. See myQ’s setup page for details.
Will Your Opener Work With the Hub?
Chamberlain says the Smart Garage Control works with most brands of openers made after 1993 that have photo eyes that do not shut off. It also has limits.
- Not for any Chamberlain Group opener with a yellow learn button made from 2010 to 2021
- Not for any Linear opener
- Not for openers whose photo eye lights turn off after the door closes
- Sectional doors only
We check your opener before you buy a hub, so you do not pay for something that cannot work.
What to have ready
- Your opener brand and model number
- The color of the Learn button
- Your WiFi name and password
- Your phone, with the myQ app installed
Why the Door Beeps and Flashes When You Close It From the App
Chamberlain says safety regulation UL 325 requires the system to alert bystanders before the door closes remotely. The beep and the flashing light are a safety feature, and they are normal. If you hear beeping at other times, see our beeping guide.
Good to know
- The alert is required for remote closing
- It warns anyone near the door
- Do not try to turn it off
- If the door will not close, check the photo eyes
myQ Not Working? What It Usually Means
Match what you see to the likely cause.
| What you see | Likely cause | Safe step | Our guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| The app says offline | A changed router or password, a weak signal, or an outage | Restart your router, and check power to the opener | Call us if it stays offline |
| The hub will not pair | Wrong WiFi band, a weak signal, or an incompatible opener | Check the compatibility list above | Call us |
| The door will not close from the app | Blocked or misaligned photo eyes, or lock mode | Check both sensor lights | Door will not close |
| It beeps and flashes before closing | A required safety alert | Nothing is wrong | Beeping |
| Remotes stopped after I reset the opener | The memory was erased | Reprogram your devices | Reset guide |
Why myQ Connections Fail in Las Vegas
Weak WiFi in the garage
A garage at the far end of the house, or behind thick walls, can get a weak signal. A WiFi extender can help.
Router changes
A new router or a changed password breaks the connection until you reconnect the opener.
Storms and outages
Monsoon storms run from late June into September. An outage can drop the connection.
What We Do for myQ
We check your opener, connect it to the app, and test it. We also program remotes and keypads, install smart keypads, and give you the total before we start. See our LiftMaster and Chamberlain pages for brand details.

Our steps
- You call or send the form. Tell us the brand, the model if you can find it, and what you want.
- We check compatibility. Learn button color, age, and photo eyes.
- We set it up. We connect WiFi, pair the hub or opener, and add the sensor.
- We test everything. Open, close, alerts, and the safety reverse, before we leave.

myQ Questions in Las Vegas
What is myQ?
myQ is Chamberlain Group’s smart garage system. With the free myQ app, you can open, close, and monitor your garage door from your phone, get alerts, and set schedules.
Do I need a new opener to use myQ?
Not always. Newer Chamberlain and LiftMaster smart openers have myQ built in. For many existing openers, Chamberlain’s Smart Garage Control adds myQ, if the opener is compatible.
Which openers have myQ built in?
Newer Chamberlain and LiftMaster smart openers connect to myQ with no extra hardware, according to myQ. Check your model number, or ask us.
Which openers will not work with Smart Garage Control?
Chamberlain says it works with most openers made after 1993 that have photo eyes that do not shut off. It is not for any Chamberlain Group opener with a yellow learn button made from 2010 to 2021, or any Linear opener, and it works only with sectional doors.
Why does my door beep and flash when I close it from the app?
Safety regulation UL 325 requires an alert before a door closes remotely, so people nearby know it is about to move. That beep and flash is normal. See our beeping guide.
Does myQ need WiFi?
Yes. The app needs your opener or hub to stay connected to a strong WiFi signal, and many myQ devices need a 2.4 GHz network. A weak signal in the garage is a common cause of an offline app.
Can I share access with family or guests?
Yes. myQ lets you share access through the app, so you do not need to hand out a key or code. The number of guests varies by device.
Why does my myQ app say my opener is offline?
The usual causes are a changed router or WiFi password, a weak signal in the garage, or a power outage. Restart your router first. If it still shows offline, call us.
Can you set up myQ for me?
Yes. We connect WiFi openers and Smart Garage Control hubs to the app, add smart keypads, and program remotes and your car button. We also check that your opener is compatible before you buy a hub.
How much does myQ setup cost?
It depends on your opener, the hub you need (if any), and what else you want programmed. You get the total before work starts. Our repair cost guide explains what changes the price.
